Our approach
Sustainability is in our prime thinking
Sustainability is a core element of our strategy. As an export-oriented manufacturer formulating to European printing-ink regulations for every market we serve, the standard we apply in India is the standard we apply everywhere.
In March 2026 the European Printing Ink Association published the first edition of its Charter on raw material selection and exclusion, replacing the Exclusion Policy referenced by the industry since 2016. We have assessed our complete range against the Charter, confirmed that our UV ranges are free of TPO, and updated our data sheets to reference the Charter.

Design for recycling: what PPWR asks of inks
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation makes recyclability a legal design requirement: all packaging placed on the EU market must be recyclable by 2030 and recycled at scale by 2035, with graded performance classes and rising recycled-content obligations. Inks and coatings are a small fraction of a pack’s mass and a large fraction of its recyclability problems.
Paper: de-inkability. Recycled fibre is only useful if it is bright, and brightness depends on removing ink in flotation de-inking. Inks fail de-inking in two ways: they fragment into particles too small to float, below about 5 µm, which grey the pulp, or they remain as large flexible flakes that pass screens and appear as dirt specks. Water-based acrylic inks de-ink well when the binder redissolves in the pulper and releases pigment at a floatable size, which is the case for our UniLux and UniCraft ranges on standard papers.
Plastics: sorting and contamination. Carbon-black prints absorb the near-infra-red light a sorter uses, so dark-printed PE, PP and PET packs are ejected to landfill or incineration. Our NIR-sortable black development replaces carbon black with an organic pigment combination that reads as black to the eye but reflects in the sorter’s window.
Barrier coatings: repulpability. A coating that prevents the pack from breaking down in the pulper, or that forms tacky residues on paper-machine surfaces, excludes it from the paper stream regardless of ink. Our barrier-coating development is qualified against the Cepi recyclability test method from the outset.
The EuPIA Charter
The Charter keeps the explicit exclusions — heavy-metal pigments, named solvents, hazardous plasticisers — and adds a risk-based tier for hazardous substances, requiring substitution of non-threshold substances within a year.
Every Uniform Industries formulation is now assessed against the Charter’s raw-material selection rules. TPO, reclassified as reprotoxic category 1B under CLP in 2025 and added to the Charter exclusion list, is not used in any of our UV ranges.
