The UniCure range of UV overprint varnishes for flexo, gravure, roller coater, offset and screen application.
UniCure OPVs
The UniCure range of UV coatings offers high reactivity, very good running characteristics, high gloss, very high scratch and scuff resistance and high chemical resistance, with consistency in performance, rheological profile and physical properties across the shelf life of the coating.
Coatings are based on carefully selected and tested raw materials. They are ITX-free, heavy-metal-free and toluene-free. Solids are almost 100 %, so UV coatings contain no water or solvent and release almost no volatile substances on cure.
Six application families across narrow web, wide web, sheet-fed and screen.
UV coatings for flexo application, mainly for label printing.
Low-viscosity, high-gloss coatings designed for pan masala and pouch work.
Mid-viscosity UV coatings for roller-coater application on offset-printed board.
High-viscosity UV coatings for offset roller, duct and dampener application.
A wide range of screen coatings for special effects.
Speciality coatings for graphic art and haptic effects.
A benzophenone-free anti-static gloss OPV for in-mould labels. It dissipates surface charge so that robots pick one label at a time instead of two. 100 % solids UV system with no VOC emission on cure.
A non-abrasive coating for thermal-transfer and direct-thermal labels, formulated to be friendly to the print head.
A flexible, product-resistant varnish for laminated-tube web.
A release coating for piggy-back and re-positionable labels.
The highest scratch resistance in the narrow-web range.
A heat-sealable low-migration overprint varnish, qualified with UniCure FP-LED inks for dairy lidding and in-mould labels.
White paper
A UV coating is the last layer a customer sees and the first one they touch. Gloss, matt, satin, drip-off contrast, raised crystal, haptic sand and bubble textures are not decorative afterthoughts; each is a controlled physical effect built from film thickness, surface tension, particle size and cure.
Gloss is specular reflection, and specular reflection needs a surface smoother than the wavelength of light. A 60° gloss of 90 GU or more requires a film that levels completely before it cures — which is why gloss UV coatings are low in viscosity and applied at 3–4 g/m² wet on sheet-fed and 2.5–3 g/m² on narrow web.
Matt scatters light with a matting agent dispersed in the liquid. As the film shrinks on cure the particles protrude from the surface. Film weight therefore has a ceiling: a heavier film buries the particles and raises gloss again.
ITX and heavy-metal free. Toluene free. Almost 100 % solids.
60° gloss above 90 GU from a fully levelled film.
Very high scratch and scuff resistance across the range.
Almost 100 % solids, so no water or solvent and almost no volatiles.
Stable rheology and physical properties across shelf life.
