The application

Shrink Sleeves and In-Mould Labels

Shrink and in-mould labelling put opposite demands on an ink. A shrink ink must stay flexible enough to follow the film as it contracts, while a low-migration ink must cure hard. Our low-migration shrink series does both, delivering 65 % shrink without cracking and migration below 10 µg/kg. Colour is specified after shrink, not before, because density rises as the print area contracts.

An in-mould label is placed in the mould and fused into the wall of the container as the polymer is injected or blown, so the ink sees the melt temperature of the polymer and must not scorch, blister or transfer. The static problem follows: ASC 88RC, our anti-static benzophenone-free gloss OPV, dissipates surface charge so that robots pick one label at a time rather than two.
